ABOUT THE PROJECT

The rankings are compiled from thousands of horror film lists, with each list weighted according to its type and source. Using a Kemeny-Young scoring system and a few formulas, the result is an attempt to narrow thousands of films down to something resembling a definitive guide to the best horror films.

Of course, no consensus list is ever going to be perfect, and popularity will always play a part. But hopefully the rankings will help you discover something new, revisit an old favourite, or find your next horror obsession.

The site also uses information from IMDb, including original film titles. Genre keywords are sourced from RateYourMusic, manually and slowly. Although the name and concept were inspired by Bill Georgaris' They Shoot Pictures, Don't They?, this project is not affiliated with that website.
